That, gentle reader, is bear poop – a great big wad of it.
We passed by it on the short (15 minute) road section that leads from Lower Butter to Upper Butter). By the time the section ended, I estimated we’d passed a dozen fresh piles of scat. On the way back down, out of sheer curiosity, I decided to count them.
Yup. I do believe this little bit of road is the local bear outhouse. We didn’t see any actual bears and were quite pleased about that.
But back to the hike. Andrea and I started at the beginning of the trail, wound our way to the top, had a lovely lunch in the warm sunshine, enjoyed the views, and headed back down. A pretty wonderful day.
Andrea is from Hamburg in Germany – I was asked to show her some of the local hikes – did so gladly. Found she was wonderful company.
Could not have asked for a nicer hiking day! Now – just waiting impatiently for the alpine to open up so that we local hikers can show her the really spectacular beauty this part of the world has to offer.
