When I talk about a new normal, it probably isn’t what’s on most people’s minds. I feel almost embarrassed to say that the “lockdown” hasn’t really affected me. I hike and I love to hike alone. I am immersed in the garden. I live on acreage far from any town or city.
In other words, I have carried on my life pretty much as normal – simple adjustments: wearing a mask in stores, distancing when hiking with friends and no large groups.
And here, I have a beautiful family that I love.
For me, the new normal is a day like today when I am busier and have a longer to-do list than I’ve had in years. The garden needs constant attention. I’m baking and cooking every day. I sewed again today!!! Yes – probably even a crappier job than the day before. So many domestic jobs and real work starting next week that will occupy me a couple of days a week.
And I still need to find time to explore and get out. Today I walked up Standard Road in Silverton. I find it hard to believe that I’ve been here for about four years and have not done this walk. Well, understandable, in that its a road. But still – exploration time. It made for a fine dog walk, especially because Abby found a bone. (joy!) We walked up the road then across on a very old logging road. I’ve made a note to explore much more – take a few hours to really find the lay of the land. I have a hunch there may be trails up there.
With the warmth and the sun, it made for a fine break in the day.
And now – a long weekend! Simon has three days off! Yay!
