We could honestly not have asked for a more perfect day for our Ramblers hike up Wesley Ridge.
It was warm; it was sunny; a bit of mist hovered over Cameron Lake and dissipated througout the day as we made our way across the ridge.
It was a great group of people. All was wonderful. But let me just say that I have done a lot of steep stuff in my time: damn, the way to the top of Mount Wesley is steep! Essentially, what you’ve got is a thousand metres of straight up. Yes, there is a bit of relief along the way, between the first 700 metres and the last 300 metres. But then you go down at the other end of the ridge – and man! It’s steep!
And what no one took into account was last winter’s windstorm. Trees came down. A lot of trees came down. Holy cow, did we ever have blowdown to contend with near the end of the ridge. We slithered under, we climbed over and we detoured around. To say the windfall was massive is a huge understatement.
But then, at the end of the day, about 6.5 hours after setting out, we got back to our cars. Whew!
And there was chocolate.
So the day was perfect.
Home now, thrilled there was no more mouse activity while I was gone (to make up for the mouse activity of last night).
I would really like to catch this little bugger and be done with it.
Maybe more peanut butter tonight? Chocolate? Beer? Rum and Coke? …
