Zen quote:
“Before enlightenment, chop wood carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water.”
There was a time, not that long ago, when I chopped wood and carried water – but I didn’t want to. I had to. I was bored and resentful and breathed a sigh of relief when it was over and I could escape.
Now, I look forward with eagerness to chopping wood and carrying water – because I see the love in it – the joy and – well, mostly the love.
The same activity.
Completely different experience.
Simple quote. Zen is simple. The experience is simple. Life, if we allow it to be, is simple.
I don’t have any profound answers. For me, the simple secret is to be present, be authentic and whatever I do, do it with my heart.
