Mount Apps

I took My second club trip today with the Ramblers: destination – Mount Apps in the Beaufort Range. This was a new one to me. Matter of face, everything in the Beaufort is and will be new because this is an area of Vancouver Island where you have to drive on logging roads. That said, no water bars. In fact, these roads are practically super highways (well – not quite) compared to logging roads in the Kootenays. Still…

So up we went and then, brrrr. Two degrees as we exited the vehicles – a sprinkling of snow. Tarns with ice on them as well as a few ice-covered rocks that required a wee bit of care to negotiate.

But up we went with one couple bringing along their year-old baby. Very cool.

It may have been cold and windy (gloves, down jackets, toques) but that made for clear skies and superb views. We had a few nice scrambly sections on good rock and lovely sub-alpine all the way.

And got home surprisingly early – plenty of time for a bubble bath and a quick walk with Abby. Yay!
