Newcastle Island

A large part of today was all about Abby.

I wanted to take her for a big day complete with hiking sandwich, which is, of course, her favourite part of any hike.

And so I took us both to Newcastle Island – and it was perfect. I’d only been once before and this was a lovely circumnavigation of the island – about 12K factoring in a bit of off-trailing and exploring. The place was almost deserted now that school is in again and it was warm and the sun came out in time for us to sit on a hill and have lunch.

Abby loved it. Although getting on and off the ferry twice was not her favourite thing. Still, the rest of the passengers applauded her when she finally did it. Such a clown.

I miss Shanara – another loveable, wonderful clown. She would have adored this walk.

And that took up most of the day – going back and forth, napping, picking raspberries.

A much bigger hike tomorrow.

But today has been mellow and fine. The sun is pouring in; the door is open. Peace.
