We’re going to have a huge salad for dinner tonight. And when I say huge, I mean humungous!
Just thinning the Buttercrunch filled my biggest bowl. This is good.
What else? Simon and I walked the dogs on the Galena Trail. Abby’s favourite thing was jumping into a black tar mud puddle. Her not favourite thing was being power sprayed when she got home.
I sowed more lettuce and radishes. I hung the sheets on the line (smell so good!)
I wrote the trip report for yesterday.
I did not celebrate Canada Day. I am very far past being patriotic to anyone or anything. It’s nothing but jingoism and we know where that leads: my country right or wrong and let’s go to war with the bad guy – the bad guy being a nationality that is not my own.
Yes I know – it simplifies things but it plays a pretty big role. You want young men to blow each other up? Tell them they’re the good guy and the other one is the bad guy.
Which leads me to a crazy FB conversation. Yes – the person I am talking to is a member of the military but is this really how badly we brainwash these people? That we tell them the rule of law supersedes morality?
But I guess this is how it is. At the meme goes, Hitler killed no one – those indoctrinated to the “rule of law” killed millions. “Just following orders.”
I would rather know what is right and what is wrong.
I think I’ll spend more time packing tomorrow. Hiking on Wednesday.
