What a day!
And I mean that in a good way.
Ben, P’nina, James and I set out at 9.30 for Mount Neptune. Following a skin track (a good one) brought us up on the ridge of Mount Crowe. We climbed almost to the top before descending (steeply and a lot!) on the cat track to the gully between Crowe and Neptune.
Then up to Neptune. This turned out to be a slow ascent because it’s steep. Let me stress – it was STEEP!!
That said – we made it! And the day was glorious with bluebird skies and warmth and I think I even got a bit of a sunburn. Not complaining about that!
What I will complain about though is that after almost 4 hours of up, and after a lovely sunny lunch, we had to go back down and then all the way back up – this time to the top of Mount Crowe.
Whew! I don’t even want to think what our elevation gain might have been.
But then the reward – coming down, straight down – through the trees in fresh, delicious powder.
P’nina insisted she had at least one major snowgasm. Personally, I think we all did.
Hard to believe we did all that in 6 hours.
