The first photo (above) involves a little game of “Where’s Waldo?” When you find him (her/it) feel free to move on.
So, today a small group of us headed up to Evening Ridge. Kind of fun because none of the others had been up this way previously and I was pretty convinced they’d love it. And they did! Hurrah!
You wouldn’t have thought it would be a perfect day for it – there were clouds and a bit of snow but the light was magical and on top of the ridge we even had blue skies and sunshine.
We also had to break trail a good deal of the way. There’d been a lot of new snow – delicious powder but sitting on top of ice. So, after wending our way along the ridge and slipping here and there, we collectively chose not to go up the final summit block – big cornices (which are not an issue) but everything underfoot was super icy – and that could have posed a problem.
We had lunch, admired the light and the snow and the views – and headed back.
Again, the ice played an interesting role in our down-trek. Naturally, we freelanced through the powder and I have to say that I have never seen so many spills. Hell, “see?” I probably had more falls than everyone else combined!
But we had soooo much fun.
And such a lovely group!
