Karleigh and I had an outstanding day snowshoeing up Evening Ridge and Whaleback.
It’s special to hike with someone who ”gets it” and is as much in awe of the beauty as I am. And Karleigh gets it.
and so we climbed up the many, many switchbacks, mostly in silence. From the top of Evening Ridge, we were in luck. We could see skiers on top of the Whaleback – and that meant a skin track.
We followed the track and happily, I noted that they carved a super trail, staying well to the left of the cornices. In fact, their trail was so much better than the one I’d put in previously. And we made it to the top. I was especially pleased for Karleigh because she stretched her comfort zone without ever voicing the tiniest bit of trepidation!
I think she’s amazing!
and the weather cooperated! we had cloud going up and at lunch the sun broke through. Going up, with no sun, we were in awe of the beauty. But then coming back, with blue sky and light and shadow, we took so many photos, constantly sighing and exclaiming: look at that!!!
Karleigh summed it up perfectly when we came back down through the powder ”goota love those endorphins!”
and then I had a hot bath and Simon called and even though he had a frustrating day, he got stuff done. He really is being a hero and all our friends know it.
