Five of us set out at the bottom of the Butter trails today to do a recon for a club trip on Tuesday.
I’d say it was highly successful for a number of reasons. First, we enjoyed ourselves. Second, Nicky brought her friend and land partner, Dawn, along – and she’s totally lovely.
Really like her a lot. I hope she comes out more often. And, given it was her first “real” snowshoe – boy, she did amazingly great!
And then, after Nicky and Dawn headed back down, Rick, Sheila and I continued up to intercept the Butter trailhead sign at the viewpoint. We broke trail in the right general direction, me falling into a huge tree well along the way (oh well!) And here’s the awesome part: we topped out about 10 feet away from the sign.
I figure that was pretty good navigation. Okay – never mind – truth – excellent pure dumb luck.
And it was there that the clouds parted and the sun shone and we had lunch in warm sun. Just wonderful. As Sheila said, “Hope the weather is like this for the club trip on Tuesday.”
I think everyone is going to like it. It makes for a nice change. And no, it’s not alpine – but it’s a good hike and for anyone worried about avi terrain – zero chance of that.
