Mount Beattie today – and quite a trip it was. Peter, Helen and I had planned to do Sherpa, Prospector and Hummingbird Peaks. Luckily, Peter had taken note of the insane amount of snow that had fallen in the area and opined that Beattie might be tough enough.
It was. Peter had, days before, set a trail but there was only a faint line left. Still, it was enough to buoy us up a bit and give us a track to follow. Straying off that track meant sinking into the snow up to our thighs. Yes we know that because we tested it out a couple of times.
That small jaunt up Beattie took 3 hours! Holy cow parsnips!
Of course Peter was delighted because at last he had some hard work in front of him. However, let it be noted that as we rotated back to break trail, it seemed that he always gave up the lead to me whenever we hit a steep uphill part.
Just sayin’
Lunch at the top and a much easier time coming down. We had a lot of clouds and fog and a bit of snowfall here and there and it was utterly, completely gorgeous. A winter wonderland!
