White Queen

Today I had the dubious pleasure of leading a hike up White Queen. And, let me say right here and now, that Jan is my new hero.

She gathered a lot of Karma points today being my tail gunner, because, quite frankly, there was a lot of tail (ahem – not that way).

The fact that we made it is miraculous in itself. I went up and then down the hill for snowshoe repair. I went back up and then down again to deliver car keys to the person whose snowshoes then completely fell apart.

Then we went up and got to the summit. Jan stayed behind with a person who was having difficulties. But she encouraged him and helped and we were coming down after lunch and there she was with her person, going up – of course, I turned around and re-summitted (is that a word?) because hey! Why do one summit if you can do two, right?

And then we went back down in a long, snaking, scattered line. What I mean is that Jan and I herded cats all day.

That said – look at that blue sky. And those views! How could it be anything but a good day? We even had a few excellent political discussions. What more could we ask for?
