Mount Elgood/Plewman/7 Summits loop

There really isn’t anything better than a day hiking in the alpine. I’ve been on the Seven Summits Trail quite a bit, but I’ve never seen it in the early summer. It was gorgeous. And even in the alpine, where it’s usually hot and dry, it was verdant – green and alive with flowers. And I don’t think I’ve heard such a cacophony of songbirds!

Also ladybugs – shortest lunch break every – we were swarmed. They got in my ears. They landed In my sandwich. They bit us! We were dive bombed. And I really do mean swarms.

For some reason, ladybugs appear to like the top of Mount Plewman.

At any rate, as usual it was a truly fine KMC group and I finally got to meet and hike with Paul’s brother, Brent. And darn it, he’s as nice as Paul! It felt like I was hiking with family! And given how often Paul and I hiked together on the island, it’s no wonder it felt that way.

There were an awful lot of hugs all around today.

The best news was seeing how tiny the few remaining patches of snow were. The 7 Summits Trail is a total go for Wednesday!
