The weather today was something else. Plan A was Wolf Ridge. We got to Kootenay Pass – I, for one, was stunned by the amount of new snow. We went up, breaking trail, until we got to the top of Cornice Ridge. From there, it was an up and down (mostly up) ridge walk all the way. The wind was fierce and the cornices – well – shall we say, interesting.
We talked about it. Most of us were game to go on but we all had some reservations. Mine was wind. I have had the experience of being picked up and blown away by the wind and we knew it was going to get worse.
So we made a group decision (6 boys and me) to turn back and head across the road to the Lightening Ridge Cabin and then to the top of Baldy Rocks.
Great choice – we got to the cabin at around 12.30 and then up Baldy – a beautiful summit and also a nice ridge walk. We did about 11K with 750 metres elevation.
Happy day indeed! This is the way snow is supposed to be. But enough – I will let the photos do the talking – and they do it so much better than me!
