Great day today – how could a day spent snowshoeing with my local bestie not be amazing!
Love what we did today! We had noticed a trail at the beginning of Butter when we came back last time – decided that today was the day to investigate. What a wonderful decision that was! We went up past a rather stunning cave with stalagmites and stalactites, hiked up past looming cliffs and eventually, down through a meadow to the upper road. There we turned, backtracked and found the rest of the trail that took us to the loop with the original. So now we have a good map of the area, including a super two-hour loop.
Naturally we went on. The GPS app came in handy because we did run out of trail and just freelanced our way up. I made the fateful (serendipitous) choice of a left-hand rather than a right-hand gully. I was aiming for the road. Instead, we came to the top of a high hill with splendid views and the sun in our faces. A perfect lunch stop.
After that, back down. I’d say this was the best Butter hike I’ve done. We really like this place. And I have the GPS track! Yay!
Other than losing one of my snow baskets and not finding the water bottle I lost last time, it was as perfect a day as you could ask for. And hell – snow baskets, water bottles – it’s just stuff, right?
