Mount Lepsoe

It was one of those perfect days! We got up before 6 and were on the trail at 9 with some of our very favourite KMC members – and that made for a day that was 100 percent fun. Oh sure, there was some work involved – 11 K in 6 hours and almost 800 vertical metres. But what fun!

We thought we weren’t going to get that sensational snow that is so prevalent in the sub alpine. Oh my gosh – we got it big time!

We headed up the Seven Summits trail to Sunspot Cabin where we stopped for a snack. Then on and on and finally breaking trail to Lepsoe Ridge – and breaking more trail to the top. No – no views. We started sunny but up there we were quite literally in a cloud. But who needs far views when you have a winter wonderland all around you – pure magic!

And then the real fun began. Ben had mapped out a route straight down the ridge. And down we went. Heck – I’m not sure of the angle but it really couldn’t have been all that far off 90 degrees. (a bit – ahem, a lot – of exaggeration)

We fell; we bum slid; Simon did face plants; we all giggled and laughed. Where are we going? we asked Ben a few times. Straight down! he said.

Good enough – straight down we went – and then at about 2 p.m., a late lunch at Sunspot. Nice that three other snowshoers were already there and had fed wood into the stove – we had a cozy cabin.

And then hoofed it back. Simon and I found a super fast route back to the car – got us back in half the time it would normally have taken.

Wonderful, wonderful day! Filled with beauty, magic and the best of company. And shared with my love.
