Breaking Trail

A hike up to Payne Bluffs that normally takes about an hour or less, took us a tad more than two hours today – and more than an hour back. Why? Well, you may ask.

The answer lies in the photos. We had to break trail in that – at several points, it was above our waists. Whew! Leg muscles don’t quit on me now!

So – we were actually quite pleased that we got a terrific workout. One of the best parts was sunshine! You have no idea how long it’s been since we have seen sun here!

Yes – sun and blue skies. Can you say sweaty? Whew!

But awesome!

Another good part – with snow that deep, I had no trepidation about heading straight down the almost vertical hillside. Wheeeeee. Got stuck only once. Yay!

More good news: we have another house showing tomorrow. The ventilation guy stopped by to give us an estimate. We have two more big KMC snowshoe trips booked – the first one for this Friday. And I now have a down sleeping bag waiting for me at VPO in Nanaimo. It is the warmest bag I could find. I am now so very ready to do some big multi-day hikes this summer.

Sheila estimates that the snow may clear the alpine by August.

The good news about his – she suggested that we do the top of Mount Brennan on snowshoes. This is actually a brilliant idea. Doing it over the boulders, rocks and scree was killer last year. With snowshoes it should be a ton easier.

Plans – lots and lots of plans.
