We got as far as Nancy Green and turned around. The roads at that point were quite horrible and we could see a storm coming in. Maybe we could get to the pass, but what about coming back?
So we turned and Simon had the very good idea of Brilliant Overlook. As it turned out, Castlegar had the best weather in the entire area. We parked at the golf course and took the trail up Dove Hill then down the other side and then began heading up Brilliant. Unfortunately there wasn’t enough snow for snowshoes and it wasway too wet and sticky for spikes. We turned around before the boulder field and headed back up Dove Hill for lunch. The dogs had a great time and we still got 4.5 hours snowshoeing, about 400 metres elevation and almost 9K – great day. We had lunch at the south lookout – sitting on an actual bench!
So – we had fun – a good Plan B. We will go back to Seven Summits but I’m going to watch the weather before we do.
The dogs are happy.
They are also very tired. I’ve had a hot bubble bath so needless to say, I’m feeling pretty good too – especially after this morning’s rant just after turning back from the pass. I developed a hate for everything. I didn’t single out any one thing – as I told Simon, I didn’t just hate winter and the weather – I also hated the atoms, molecules, skies, all the planets, every religion, politics, – it was all-encompassing. It’s nice to know that I can be so indiscriminating and democratic about being royally pissed off. Quite proud about that.
