Shovelling and Baking

And that’s the story of my day: shovelling snow and Christmas baking – not necessarily in that order.

It’s 4:30 and I’m not done yet. The ganache is cooling in the refrigerator – so the last chore is to complete the truffles. The pecan bars, linzer hearts and vanilla shortbreads are done. And yes, it really does take all day. The good new is that I love doing it!

Last night we got well over a foot of snow. Vida measured it in Sandon this morning – 1.5 feet and it was still coming down. Same story up where we are. So Simon went out with the snow blower, which broke – and a good part of the driveway had to be done by hand!

I took a break after a morning of baking, took the dogs out and shovelled the back four walk for them. They thought that was great fun – running back and forth, trampling paths, showing me where to shovel next. And boy, that snow was heavy. But it was good to get outside.

I needed a break from the oven.

Tonight – a sugar high – and hell, I may as well finish what’s left in that bottle of champagne I had to open to make the truffles!!!

Last night I had a bit of trouble sleeping – this is what happens when I get story ideas in my head. Last night it was two separate plots. I love the idea of both of them but one in particular has my beyond excited. So – at last I am going to make time to write it tomorrow. I also have to prepare for the snowshoe trip on Wednesday.

Whew! Christmas is getting busy. And we don’t even have our tree yet!
