I intended to take the dogs for a very long walk. I contemplated Evans Creek trail but I really don’t like it very much and the thought of all the slippery rocks turned me off. Well then, I said to myself, why not go to the rail trail in Slocan and start heading south – see how far the dogs and I get in three hours or so?
And so we set off. About twenty minutes or so into a pleasant enough walk that was nice because I was allowing my mind to wander down creative pathways (story ideas), Shanara suddenly turned and tore off. I called and called. No deal – she was a streak heading back to the car park. I took off after here, twice as fast as before. My fear was that she would run out on the road.
We got back and there she was (whew!) sitting by the car. And that was the end of the hike. I wasn’t happy. I could understand if she had heard a gunshot – or any noise at all really – but nothing. She just took off.
And so back home and that was that.
Okay – Plan B. Heck I had to come up with a way to make lemonade darn fast. So right after lunch I started baking bread and writing another story. The results? Two nice warm loaves of bread (radish sandwich for dinner) and another story done. There was even a quick game of Scrabble at one point (I won!!! hehehe)
So all is good. But I really do need to move my body. The question of course, at this time of year, is where. I think I’ll leave that puzzlement for tomorrow morning. The weather will likely dictate.
One thing I know – my walk (hike?) tomorrow will be without dogs.
