Still smoky

I think the smoke is taking it out of all of us. Maybe except for Simon who is determined to finish the batts on the house today – and it’s shaping up that he will. Working his butt of – he is.

Me? I drove to Nelson where it turned out the car didn’t need an alignment after all. Good news! Also – sigh – I guess I didn’t have to make that drive. On the other hand, I was able to pick up things there I needed and couldn’t get anywhere else so all is good.

By the time I got home at about 1.30, I was exhausted and collapsed on the bed for half an hour. Then, finally managed to get myself and the dogs to Galena for an hour or so walk and play in the creek.

Even gardening felt hard.

However, I am not one to concede to smoke – or much of anything else. Not when there is hiking to be done. Tomorrow I am going on my first solo trip in a very long time. Upping my comfort zone once again because the wildlife around here has me just a tiny bit on edge – something I never worried about on the island. So I’m not going to worry about it here either. My criterion for the hike was simple – it has to be car accessible. So – I have a long drive tomorrow – all the way to Nancy Green near Rossland to summit Old Glory. I doubt it will be as beautiful a hike as the mountains around here – but it has a ridge walk and views and a trailhead right at the paved road. What’s not to like?

Early start tomorrow. And I think it’s going to be nice to be solo again.

  1. I would go with you but, as you know I’m stuck working at the centre. Be safe, my love, carry your bear spray (which, by the way, works on just about anything), and I would suggest your bear banger but you have a habit of blowing yourself up with them 😉 . I have left the bear horn on the table for you when you wake.
