Another epic hiking day! Although the smoke from BC’s wildfires kept visibility severely limited, we still had an amazing day. And that wasn’t just due to where we were – it had a great deal to do with who we were with.
Highlights of the day: Simon and Nicky being total heroes when we found ourselves driving up the wrong road and managing, between them, to get the truck turned around on a narrow forestry road with a cliff edge. I couldn’t even look. I believe it was a seven-point turn.
Next: started off in rain and the day got better and better. We made the col and then ascended on the left ridge through stunning meadows. Even with the smoke, there were glorious alpine views!
The sun came out for lunch in an alpine meadow! Totally awesome. I was inspired to do a little Sound of Music and Simon even joined in! (sort of). At any rate – I posted Nicky’s musical video on my timeline on Facebook.
Okay – other highlights: amazing flowers. Truly stunning. We took so many photos on our way down!
And heck – it was just a brilliant day all around. We know we’re coming back to do all the ridges and spend the day.
Next big hike: Whitewater on Sunday!
Goody Niosi: profession – hiker. No – seriously! Tomorrow I am not hiking and it feels like a “day off.” And when I thought about it, I thought, Right – this is the way work should be. You spend a whole bunch of days working hard and loving every single second of it. Then you get to rest for a day or two – and then you’re madly anxious to get back to working the work you love.
So – new title for me: professional hiker!
