Hiked up to Fishhook Lake with four fabulous people, which in itself made it a truly great day. But then we also had the ancient cedars that I will gaze at in awe no matter how often I get up to see them. Lovely to see the same awestruck reaction in everyone else. This time there was no snow remaining on the trail and we made it to the end – Fishhook Lake, where we were promptly eaten alive by monster mosquitoes. So – a quick photo and then the consensus was put nicely by Peter: “Let’s get the hell out of here!”
We did – ambled back along the ridge to the Lookout at the top of the trail for a fine lunch with a wonderful view – then back down. Total time: 4.5 hours.
It was a perfect recce trip. My timing for meetings in New Denver and Kaslo are spot on and I know exactly what to expect and to tell the other hikers.
Above all – I feel so good, despite the fact that I had to pick a tick off me. This time it had already begun to dig in. Ah well – nothing much you can do about it – unless you want to deploy tiny Elvanians driving wee little tanks – but that’s another story.
