Hiking Above Roseberry

On the subject of happy-ness. This is what made me happy in the past twenty or so hours: deep, loving beautiful intimacy with my husband. Being loved by him is a gift – its value can’t be expressed in words. – Also, laughing and giggling with my man and being sent off on a hike this morning with hugs, kisses and “I love you” echoing in my ears.

Sunshine today – warmth and being able to hike with the dogs who were so pleased to hop into the car rather than be left at home.

Happy today was picking Sheila up and driving to a trailhead close by – setting out on a hike through a beautiful forest on a super trail and going on and on and on – the trail winding up and the views growing as we went. Happy-ness was just being out and feeling the heat of sunshine while a cool breeze kept the temperature just right. Happy-ness was also being able to help. You see, Sheila thought we were just going for a few hours so she came with a bottle of water, a hiking pole and nothing else. No backpack because – hey! – it’s so nice to hike free!

However, as these things go, we both knew in short order that we would want to hike to the very end of the trail. This meant a return trip of almost seven hours with about 700 metres elevation. This is where helping came in – I was able to share my sandwich at lunch time and Sheila didn’t have to go hungry. It’s a small thing but giving, no matter how minor, always makes the giver happier than the receiver. That has been my experience.

So – a beautiful day, a marvellous hike that I can hardly wait to show Simon because I know he’s going to love it. And soon – a big welcome home from work hug and kiss for the Love of my Life.

Simple things. Happy things.
