Happily, it has all worked out beautifully. Yesterday, we were out in it having the time of our lives. Today, it has been slush-snowing for hours. It’s kind of damply chilly and slushy out – not one of those days that entices you to get out and play. But I had a very domestic list. I did the laundry, cleaned, vacuumed and have been baking sourdough bread all day. And yes, sourdough is an all-day chore. It starts the night before with letting the levain come alive. Then you feed it and let it rest and then you do six kneadings with half-hour rests in-between. Then a shaping with a four-hour rest and then a pre-heating for baking and then the baking. In other words, I’ll have started the process at 8.30 a.m. and the loaves will come out of the oven at about 6.30 p.m.
And it’s worth every single minute.
So – I’ve also done a whole bunch of “little things” that needed to get done. I am prepared to go hiking tomorrow. I don’t know yet if it will be long or short. What I know for sure is that I’ll get out and go uphill somewhere. And it’s going to feel very good indeed.
I submitted my manuscript again today and did my writing.
Very dull, I know. Nothing of any great import here in this house. Simon is working on the upstairs bathroom. He has also had a good day writing – very productive.
I suspect that I am going to allow myself to be lazy for the rest of the day. No profound thoughts. No deep musings. Just a mind ticking away – working on “stuff.”
