Even when it feels like there are setbacks, I know I am moving forward.
Today: a case in point. Simon and I set off for three-hour “hike” along the Galena Trail. We managed about 2.5 hours and 8K before finishing. We stopped when we got to the cable car, unwilling to ferry the dogs across on this particularly wet trail.
And it must be said that by the time I got back to the car, my back was pretty bad. But now, after getting a fair amount accomplished today, I am definitely feeling better. Many good things occurred today. And sometimes, you have to celebrate the small things.
First, I did the walk. Second, we did the shopping and did it frugally and well (frugal being the order of the day for a wee while). Then, back home for lunch. I am delighted that the bread I baked yesterday may well be the best loaf I have ever turned out. (see? Small things!)
A delightful nap and then – constructive stuff. This may not seem like a lot, but the items were all on my list and I got to tick them off. Getting my need for achievement met? Simple – make a list followed by tick marks. Hell, I suspect I’d feel good if I put “get out of bed” on a list, so long as I could tick it off.
I set up our voicemail; I called my bro and sis-in-law; I changed my address and bank info with the government; I brushed the dogs. Yes – all “big deals!”
And now I’m going to write. I am happy with the progress I’m making. Tomorrow, I am going to find another trail somewhere. I am going to go uphill – somewhere.
Every day, step by step – it gets better.
And the fact is that feeling better is making me feel better. And I don’t care if that makes no sense at all to anyone but me.
Well done Goody. I’ve been reading your blog now for just over a year…you are very inspiring.
thank you so much 🙂
Just FYI…Jim Routledge is my brother. I first became aware of your writing thru Pat Durose.
Oh – that’s super! I adore them both! I have insisted that they must come out and visit!
Yes, I agree, they are super people. I’ve always thot Pat is a real gem. I saw them just a few days ago and told Pat I feel as if I know you…but have never met. Thanks again for your wonderful “from the heart” posts. I really wish you all the best. 😀
Thanks again – hope we meet one day 🙂
