We (Simon, Alisa and I) had a super hike today. We defied the forecast, which called for some rain. We had none. Oh sure, it may not have been all sunshine, rainbows and lollipops, but it was beautiful and the hike was fabulous.
We set off just after 9.30 and headed straight up the orange trail, my new favourite. My body felt strong and good. I was full of energy. Most importantly, it just felt so darn good to be out there moving my body and using my muscles. I think we all felt the same way.
We saw signs of spring everywhere. We had beautiful views. And, quite frankly, I’ve been up and down and around this mountain so many times, I really can’t think of a single thing to say about it that I haven’t said before. It’s beautiful in every possible way. Of – it’s also uphill both ways. True, even when you are done the hike and back on the blue trail heading back to the trailhead, it’s uphill. I don’t know how that happens; I chalk it up to magic.
The best part of the hike: listening to Simon and Alisa reminiscing about their adventures when she was a baby and a child. Their stories weren’t merely entertaining, but they gave me yet another window through which to see them – two gorgeous, wonderful people I love very much.
In other exciting news, Simon and I just began planning our next backpacking trip. We have several options, although I think the one we will take will see us heading out to Lake Beautiful. Our second snowshoe backpack into the wild. And we’ll be even better prepared this time. I think it’s going to be fun.
