I wanted to start this post by saying it was one of the best days ever. And then I realized that every day I spend with Simon is the best day ever.
I mean, it wasn’t the best day because the sun was shining and the woods were beautiful and the hiking was great and the viewpoints were spectacular – it was simply that I shared all this with Simon – we did it together.
But, to go back to the top of the day. We weren’t supposed to do Wesley Ridge (as it turns out, it was the best hike we could have done today). We set out for Minna’s Ridge. Drove up to the hump, got on the logging roads and did (so I thought) everything right to get us to the trailhead. We turned right where the sign pointed to Arrowsmith (I’m still quite certain that was the right thing to do) but after an awful lot of driving, we got nowhere that looked even remotely familiar. We turned around, tried another logging road – um – no. Gave up. Went with Plan B: Wesley Ridge.
As it turned out, it was perfect. Chilly, windy, sunny, magical forests, beautiful viewpoints and lots of snogging along the way. Who could ask for more?
Oh – and Simon beat me again at Scrabble last night. The score now stands at two games to one – I fear I shall need to take him to task when we reconvene in a couple of days.
I am so happy right now living constantly in the present – but I also admit that part of the wondrous present, is planning the future – travelling, hiking, adventures – all the together things. This is such a brand new experience for me, it makes my head spin – with joy, of course.
On the way home, we stopped in Errington for coffee – and there was Wanetta Beale – and I stopped in to say hello. When Simon joined us, I introduced him (without a second’s thought) as “the love of my life.” And he is. This man. Now. After all these years of being alive on this planet – the ultimate love of my life. I am blessed.
