October Light
October light creeps over the fields
Silver dawns,
Mists rising, caressing the gnarled trunks of old apple trees in the orchard
Morning light, gilded by amber maple leaves
Long shadows fingering across the trails
Tickling damp moss-covered rocks,
Morning dissolves
Sunlight darts behind rain-heavy clouds
Peeks out again
Paints the world gold
Orange light of evening
Kissing the damp, brown earth
Like a hopeful lover
Over and over again.
