Stretching the Comfort Zone

Whew – a busy flurry of activity late in the day, which I think I have handled. So, that means I can pull my attention away from that and back to where it belongs – on what may be my first solo backpacking trip. Not that I want Phillips Ridge to be my first. I had never planned on that. I thought it would be Flower Ride with Abby accompanying me.

But it seems that you still have to watch what you wish for – you’re going to get it in ways you never dreamed of – and likely sooner than expected.

The mountain weather forecast (which tends to be amazingly accurate) is calling for simply glorious weather for Friday, Saturday and early Sunday, with showers starting late Sunday and into Monday. That means hiking up to the ridge on Friday – and it seems that no one else is available to do that. So – I am on my own. And because the terrain up there is hard on doggy paws (I have been told) Abby is not coming with me.

I am thinking of all the people who hike solo – and there are a ton of them – and that is easing any trepidation I may have. I actually think this is going to be very good for me: the solitude, the peace, the serenity – being alone without any electronic distraction – just being with nature and the sunrise and sunset.

I think it’s going to be great.

And if, at the last minute, someone wants to come with me – well that will be good too.
