Some days are just so ordinary – and those ordinary days can be a pure joy.
Today was just that kind of day. Nothing even remotely earth-shattering: just writing a few stories, doing interviews, proofing, making appointments. Just walking with Abby in the park, picking raspberries (and eating quite a few), harvesting vegetables. Just having lunch and napping – just planning the next few days and weeks.
Planning, of course, means thinking about hikes. I may take another stab at Cruickshank Canyon on Friday. Much depends on the weather. Kings Peak is looking less and less likely. But I have every finger crossed for Phillips Ridge on the Labour Day weekend – I’ve been anticipating this one for months.
And that’s it. Simple. Just enjoying the warmth and the sunshine – the contentment of Abby being nearby napping – of having my work done and done well.
Life doesn’t always have to be exciting. Taking joy in the simple things is reward enough.
