Crest Mountain

Well – an eventful first hike back on Vancouver Island. Jess was wonderful company. Tito, the dog she was sitting, was not – at least not all the time, especially not when he bit me. However, we didn’t let that little mishap spoil the day.

One good thing: it wasn’t enarly as hot as it has been. In fact, with the breeze, it was really perfect hiking weather. We even had to put our hoodies on on top because, true to form, a grey cloud moved in just as we got to the top and lunch time.

No matter, we relaxed, and then, inspired by Ellen Aust, I suggested we explore the far ridge – which we did before heading down. I love Crest Mountain but – and this is a weird but – I was not as awe-inspired or blissful here as I am used to being. I deplore comparisons, but somewhere I missed the majesty of those gigantic snow-covered peaks and glaciers of the Alps. It will pass. We have a different kind of wild and wonderful beauty here. And I am already excited about overnighting in amongst those peaks next weekend.

On another note, coming back down to Swiss chocolate after the hike sure is its own reward!P1060256_Fotor P1060264_Fotor P1060267_Fotor P1060279_Fotor P1060280_Fotor P1060283_Fotor P1060285_Fotor P1060286_Fotor P1060290_Fotor P1060293_Fotor
