Well, if yesterday was a perfect day hiking, today was just as perfect, in a completely different way. Yesterday I was alone and I explored and meditated. Today there were ten of us with five dogs and we kept up a pretty good pace. But I love the people we were with, particularly Julie and Paul who I consider two of my best friends and hiking buddies.
So it was completely wonderful. The sky was relentlessly blue, the views outstanding and the hiking just superb. If I could have had my druthers, we would have slowed down the pace just about 5 percent, allowing for more photos and more time to just take in all the beauty.
I notice that quite a few people are intent on “bagging peaks” or seeing if they can beat their best time. That sort of hiking is not for me – not even remotely. I am up in the mountains to soak in the beauty – to have a spiritual experience. I’m not saying that I want to loiter – I like to keep moving, but at apace that allows me to stop now and then to just fill my soul.
But – did I mention that it was a simply fabulous day? Did I mention I’m happy? Oh – and did I also mention that in the next couple of days I am going to reserve a place for the John Muir Trail next year? Wheeee!!!
