thoroughly back at it

P1030411Whatever remnants of vacation spilled over into last week are now long gone. I’ve had two busy days and the routine feels perfectly normal again: work, walk Abby, work, walk Abby – and so on.

But you know, it’s not such a bad routine. There is a great deal of satisfaction to be had at the end of a good productive day. And happily, the last two days have been very productive.

Yesterday, I watched the documentary, “Mile, Mile and a Half,” about a small group of friends who hiked the John Muir Trail. It sure looks hard. It also makes me want to do it even more. From my point of view, I think the secret is to take it one step at a time, not rush – take time to appreciate and fall in love with the landscape. I think it can and should be a very meditative experience.

I hope to find a ton of peace on that trail. It feels like something I really have to do.

And so, more work tomorrow and the next day and the weekend and more hiking. I was going to do a night hike today but just changed my mind. Every now and then you just have to stay home, put your feet up and watch a couple of new episodes of Downton Abby. It’s just the way it goes.
