You know that a day is as perfect as it can get when you’re only 20 minutes into the hike and you know that getting up at 4 a.m. was worth it!
In fact, I am now so enamoured of this trail – and of the surrounding wild and wonderful Strathcona, that I am already planning multiple trips back to the area – hike like Flower Ridge are calling me.
But back to yesterday. Yes, it rained on the way up, and yes we did see one or two brief glimpses of sun, but for the most part it was cool and cloudy. No matter: the woods and mountains were beautiful enough to make you religious: a pagan in love with the forest, the river, the mountains. The company was wonderful: 12 exceptionally delightful people, especially Ernie the tour leader. And, of course, what would the hike have been without 6 dogs in tow? Abby, of course, stole someone’s apple. I can’t image the ruckus (make that riot) she would have caused had I not tied her up at lunchtime.
A long day: almost three-hour drive up and back and about 9.5 hours of hiking. Worth every minute. Loved it! Felt so strong all day. I suspect I could have gone another two or three hours happily!
The beauty of nature nurtures me: my temple, my church.
