Some days it’s just all about what you don’t expect. Like the zipper breaking on your favourite (necessary in this weather) merino fleece. I mean, I can hardly go to the mountain on Saturday without my fleece!
So I cleared some time in my schedule to dash into town to the tailor, where I begged and pleaded for her to get it done by Thursday morning. Obviously, begging works.
And then there’s the whole thing about owning a car – taking it in for a simple oil change turned into the dire warning that my front brake pads were done – gone kaput! Okay – next week I spend almost 500 dollars on new brake pads. Fine.
To be fair, the money I spent picking up my new glasses today turned out to be cheaper than expected – because I was going to get prescription sunglasses as well – but they had uv coated clip-on shaded on sale for only $5 – and I only wear the things when I drive. So hey!
And while I was doing all this running around, I also managed to write two features and walk the dog – twice! So I figure I did pretty good. And on the swings and merry-go-rounds of both finances and life, I think I’m coming out pretty good.
The really good news is that between new driving glasses, brake pads and an oil change, I feel very safe and competent on the road. Hurrah, right?
