Christmas Day

So there I was hiking on Maple Mountain, peacefully alone – the only car parked at the trailhead. Convinced that I wouldn’t run into a single other person all day – not on this meandering trail in the middle of nowhere – I burst into song, running through every German Christmas Carol I remembered the words for. Trust me, it was not a pretty sound. And just as I burst forth into my highest note (I think it was more than a tad screechy) I pair of mountain bikers rounded the corner. I hope the look they gave me was a smile and not a grimace.

We wished each other a Merry Christmas and I continued on, Not singing (well maybe just a little bit but more softly) the rest pf the way.

It didn’t rain. It was warm enough that when I got to the top, I could spread out my wet sheet and sit for a relaxed lunch.

I feel a million times blessed.
