So I went to London Drugs today and bought a new Panasonic Lumix. Although I have liked my Sony Cybershot, I am not impressed with the fact that after only one year (plus 4 days – so out of warranty) a smudge has appeared on the LCD screen and, of course, shows up in all my photos) Sony support told me to take it back to my dealer who would ship it to them. Turns out that even if nothing is wrong with the camera, just having them assess it plus shipping will cost $85.
So I bit the bullet and bought the Lumix (again. I say, again, because the Lumix was my previous camera – and I loved it. It served me well for years. I love the Leica lens. This updated version has 16:9 aspect ration and HDR – my two must-haves. It also has the 20x zoom and is $100 cheaper than the Sony. It’s also smaller and lighter – much better for hiking and traveling.
I took these test pics, indoor and out on a cloudy day to see how it performs. I’m quite pleased with it. I just need to tweak a few settings still but I think this will do me very well indeed. I’m keeping the Sony as a backup (smudge and all)
