Shopping

So here’s how I shop.

First, I think about it for a long time. I mean this can be a months-long project.

I’ll give you today’s for-instance.

I started thinking about re-doing my bathroom almost a year ago. No, really! I considered it, imagined it, visualized it. About three months ago I decided it was definitely going to happen. I called Kathy to alert her to new paint in the bathroom (you really wouldn’t want me anywhere near a paint can). Then I began to think about new towels and bath mats etc. Three weeks ago I made a trip to Home Sense and The Bay to check out towels, bath mats, etc. Last week Kathy came with paint chips. She’ll come and paint some time in the next few weeks. Meanwhile, now that I felt committed (it only took about a year – no big deal, right?), I made a very purposeful trip up to the north end of Nanaimo. Walked into Home Sense with a shopping cart and started piling things into it. Walked out of Home Sense $260 later. Everything is tucked into the back of my closet until Kathy has been and gone.

That’s my process. I’m pretty much the same way with everything, even clothes. I rarely shop – maybe two or three times a year. And I’m happy with that.

I consider today’s spree (which also included a trip to the Body Shop for body lotion and to PetSmart for a new nail clipping tool) my birthday bash.

I will be 67 on Monday! Holy cow! I was just looking at my old passports today. Wow! Time – it is an interesting beast.

I have been processing various thoughts and feelings – and they are so much in their infancy right now that I feel completely incompetent to write about them yet. I will do so as they crystallize. I am aiming for something and I’m not even sure what it is. But I do feel that I am on a journey and soon I will know where it is taking me. I think this is a good thing. I’m open to new directions.
