Yes, believe it or not, I’m still on the subject of food. This one has been bothering me for a couple of weeks. I’ve figuratively bitten my tongue – can’t hold out any longer.
Two weeks ago I saw a post on Facebook – a mom (complete with photo of the event) was so proud of something or other her son did that as a “special treat” she took him to McDonald’s for a big burger thingy and a fries thing and a soft drink.
Okay – here’s the deal: what is this a treat?
This food is crap. No – sorry – I should never have called it food. It is something or other that can be ingested into the body that is full of poisons, GMOs and other garbage that causes disease and obesity.
But that’s not the worst part of the “treat.” I want to know why any mother anywhere would give her child the message that poisons are treats. Yes, the message is clear: the best stuff is fast food. It’s a treat! So then, of course, the kids, when they get older, choose this garbage as often as possible because they learned when they were children that it’s the best stuff on earth – a treat!
Beyond that – why do we use food as treats? I can see it with a dog. That makes sense. But with children? Can’t a treat be a new book? Can it be playing catch in the park? Can it be a family bike ride?
Whew – glad I got that off my chest!
