Perspectives

Spring is the perfect time to walk the Harwood Plains – the flowers were in full bloom. Personally, I think these wildflowers put all our fabulous garden hybrids to shame. And then there were the birds – in no other part of the island have I heard such a multitude of birdsong. Beautiful!

After the hike up the Cameron Lake Trail and today’s hike – and all the news of the past 24 hours, I think I have things in better perspective.

First, Fred died. So sad. He was a beautiful horse with a lovely, steady personality and he’s been here since the day I moved in – almost 13 years ago. My heart goes out to Sylvia.

Then I talked to my brother this morning. He has just been diagnosed with prostate cancer and also just came back from rushing my mother to the hospital. She just had another fall.

It all kind of puts tent caterpillars into proper perspective.

Oh, and there is space to plant my beans.

I know it’s human nature (and mine certainly) to fret about the little things. I just want to train myself not to. There are big things in life – that’s where I want my attention to be.

So here are some big things: flowers and nature and dogs – yup – those are very big things.
