Doing Nothing

It’ snot easy for me to do nothing. I’m like a duck – even when I appear to be siting totally still, there’s a lot of paddling ging on under the surface.

That’s not to say that I can’t relax – I’m very good at relaxation – it’s just that I need to be doing something while I’m relaxed – like reading on my iPad, or playing bridge online – or dreaming up some great new (hopefully brilliant) idea.

Actually, long walks and hikes are best for ideas. I love the process – a problem pops into my head – and I use the term “problem” in its broadest sense – and on my walk it swirls and twirls and tiptoes around until – POP – something happens. And there it is – a fully formed idea.

Another thing walking is good for – writing poetry. I write poems in my head. Or I play word games in my head. Sometimes the word games become nonsense poetry. If I were to carry a tape recorder with me and verbalize what’s going on my head, it would be interesting to say the lease – and that is probably why I dont’ carry a recorder.

It’s Saturday. I love this day. This is a totally fabulous day. I walked in the back forty this morning in the gorgeous sunshine.

This afternoon I’m joining J and H for a hike at Cable Bay. And, as for the rest of the time, lazing away the day – like a duck of course. But there will be nap time. Oh yes, there will!
