I am so surprised to discover that I love book editing. It feeds one of my biggest drivers: achievement. And I love that I am learning new things – and I love that the process is actually pretty darn creative. At least, that’s true for this particular project.
I have so much more understanding for and empathy with the editors who work on my books. I understand why they go through the manuscript so many times. Today I completed my fourth pass – and I finally think I’ve got it all.
Now I know why I find the odd mistake in books, even when they are published by icons like Random House, who doubtlessly employ some of the bet editors in the world.
I’ve leaned so much – my bif=ggest learning being about commas – pesky little things they are – and with so many nuances.
But I’ve had a great day. And tomorrow I
m going to have one of the best days ever doing the most challenging hike of Maple Mountain! Here’s hoping it’s also a day of beautiful light so that I’ll be able to take lovely photographs.
