So here’s the thing: when I’m not very busy there isn’t anything to write about (I mean really – how many times do you want to hear about the wonders of brushing my teeth with an extra soft toothbrush and Tom’s toothpaste?) so I don’t blog very often.
And now, that everything is happening at once, there’s no bloody time to blog!
But I will, if only briefly, because what’s going on is darn exciting. First (and most importantly) today I dove into it and started writing the first chapter of my new book. I completed seven pages, which I judge to be about 3,500 words. Not bad for a start. And it is exciting. This is a huge subject!
The working title is “O.U.R. Ecovillage: Building Sustainable Communities.” I started with the founder and I have hours and hours of interview to do with her before I move on to at least thirty or more other players plus the actual functioning of the community. It’s a very big project but already, I feel good about it. It’s exactly in my wheelhouse. I am called to inspire social and environmental activism by telling powerful stores that touch people’s hearts. I can’t imagine a more perfect fit.
My approach to this book is slow, steady, write from the heart. Write the truth. Put it all together like a huge jigsaw puzzle. Make sure it’s a gripping story. It is a gripping story – I need to ensure that I bring it across that way. I feel pretty confident at this point – seven pages in. Ha!
Tomorrow I need to review and edit those pages and then send a proposal to the publisher.
Tomorrow I also need to dive into two assignments for Homes & Living magazine that just came in today. Both are challenging and both have tight deadlines. But I like that. I have put in more hours working today than I have for a while. And I LOVE it!
Yup – this is what retirement looks like.
